Cold expression of the fresh peel
of the fruit. A lower grade oil is obtained by steam distillation of the
peel and fruit pulp. |

A yellow or greenish mobile liquid
with a fresh, sweet citrus aroma. |

Limonene (90 per cent), cadinene,
paradisiol, neral, geraniol, citronellal, sinensal, as well as esters, coumarins
and furocoumarin. |

bactericidal diuretic, depurative, stimulant (lymphatic, digestive), tonic. |

It has a short shelf life-it oxidizes quickly. |

Unlike most other citrus essences, grapefruit
oil is non-phototoxic. However, the oil has a very short shelf life and
must be used within six months of purchase. Once it begins to oxidize, it
can cause skin irritation and sensitization. |
