2. Bitter fennel oil from crushed seeds or the whole herb (the wild 'weed').

Characteristics
Colorless to pale yellow liquid with a very sweet, anise-like, slightly earthy-peppery scent.
Main Constituents
Anethole (50-60 per cent0, limonene, phellandrene, pinene, anisic acid, anisic aldehyde, camphene, limonene, among others. In addition, bitter fennel oil contains 18-22 per cent fenchone, whereas the sweet fennel oil contains little or none.
Properties
Aperitif, nti-inflanmmatory, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative, depurative, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorrant, galactagogue, laxative, orexigenic, stimulant (circulatory), splenic, stomachic, tonic, vermifuge.
Key Qualities
Uplifting, balancing, soothing, stimulating, regulating, sedative refreshing, calming, reviving, anti-depressant.
Blends well with
Eranium, lavender, rose and asndalwood. The seed oil is a pale yellow liquid with a sharp, warm camphoraceous odour; the 'weed' oil is orange-brown with a sharp, pepperycamphoraceous odour.
Safety Data
Non-orrotamt, relativer non-tpxoc, narcotic in large doses; bitter fennel may.
Cautions
Use in moderation. This oil should not be used by people who suffer from epilepsy, children under six, or pregnant women.
